NB 159

The NB 159 is Hvide Sande Shipyard’s tenth vessel with advanced electric/hybrid propulsion and will be delivered to Tjönrs Hamnar AB in the last quarter of 2025. The ferry was developed in collaboration with Swedish design company FKAB Marine Design. It is designed to replace the current ferry Hakefjord, which has been operating on the routes between Tjörn, Tjörnekalv, Åstol and Stora Dyrön since 1998.

With a length of 27 metres and capacity for up to 180 passengers, the NB 159 represents a significant capacity increase of approximately 50% compared to its predecessor.

The ferry is equipped with an electric/hybrid solution where electric motors drive the ship’s propellers. Energy is primarily supplied by batteries charged from shore power, while the diesel generator by biofuel can be used as a supplement for longer journeys.
